Rainy Day Rinnie
We are at last having some beautiful rain! Just the kind that we need…a long slow steady rain. The only down side is that I will have to mow the weeds soon! But I am just fine with that.
Rinnie has gone to school off and on for the past 2 weeks. She has done well, staying all day when she goes. She does find that she tires easily, though. She is up to date with her school work, borrowing friend’s notes so that she can do the work she has missed at home.
For the past 2 days, she has been home with the rain. She is doing well and finally sleeping better and just does not want to stop her momentum forward by getting overly tired at school. ArtSpace is a wonderful school and they are working with her about assignments and are researching to see how she can remain a student there while missing days for treatment in Atlanta and “rain days” like the past 2 days.
The past two days have been her best in over a month. Having the social worker come to our home to evaluate for medical negligence really took the wind out of Rinnie’s sails and set her back in a big way. She is finally moving forward after a month of treatment, support and love and finally knowing that she will not be taken from her mother. She is eating better than she has in what seems like forever. Her friend, Logan, made her banana bread and I went to the school this morning and picked it up. When I got it home, Rinnie literally attacked it! She ate that slice of banana bread faster than you can imagine! (It can take her 2 hours to eat a meal, and she was finished before I had eaten half of my slice.) The bread was delicious, filled with all organic ingredients, zucchini and lacking added sugar or milk products. It was delightfully moist and really perfect! Thank you Logan!
I have Rinnie walking laps around our living room. She has agreed to set her alarm on her phone to remind her to walk. She has been in bed for a couple of months, getting up only when she has to and is pretty de-conditioned. So we are working on conditioning by walking laps. We have a small house, but the short frequent walks will build her strength and endurance. Pretty soon, she’ll be back to mall trips and I’ll be running to catch up!
Rinnie remains pretty much pain free. She has some tenderness, soreness and such, but no pain. Any discomfort that she has is controlled by one plain Tylenol. We still have narcotics on hand if she needs them, but she doesn’t like to take them. She remains in good spirits most of the time and is enjoying catching up on her reading. She has read all 7 of the Harry Potter books for the first time, plus a few of the teen vampire books that are currently best sellers. She’s a chip off the old block with her ability to plow through the books!
We remain in gratitude. One of my personal “ah ha’s!” of this past week was remembering and connecting the meaning of Theo. Rinnie named the tumor Theodore and Theo means god. I experienced a major shift with that realization and began to think of all of the ways that I am grateful for Theodore in our lives. We would never have known how much we are loved and supported with Theodore. Rinnie and I would not be as close without Theodore. We would never have met Dr Turner and had such an opportunity to heal without Theodore. And the list goes on and on. Thank you for your love and support. We are so very blessed.

Hey, Rinnie.
Cool news with the chair! I’m so glad you’re able to be back in school and hang out with your friends (and the science class Guinea Pig).
Love and hugs,
Aunt Kathy

Thank you. And that guinea pig is so sweet!
